How do I get a medical marijuana card in Florida?
You must first be evaluated by a licensed Florida medical marijuana doctor. Once approved, your information is entered into the Medical Marijuana Use Registry, and you can apply for your card through the Florida Department of Health.
How long does it take to get approved?
Florida residents with a valid state ID or driver’s license will receive same-day approval. If you don’t have a Florida ID, your application may take 5–10 business days for the state to process and approve.
How long is my marijuana card valid for?
A Florida medical marijuana card is valid for 12 months from the date of issue. To renew your card, log in to your OMMU Registry account, then submit the $77.75 renewal payment directly to the state.
How long are my doctor recommendation orders valid for?
In Florida, your doctor’s recommendation (also known as your medical marijuana certification) is valid for 210 days, or about 7 months. After that period, you’ll need to schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor to renew your orders and continue purchasing medical cannabis legally.
What happens if I’m convicted of a drug-related offense in Florida?
Starting July 1, 2025, under Senate Bill 2514, the Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU) must revoke the Medical Marijuana Use Registry registration of any patient or caregiver convicted of certain drug-related violations under Chapter 893, Florida Statutes — including trafficking, sale, manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to sell a controlled substance.
